Portable Document Format
Adobe's Portable Document Format. A digital file format which is often used as it allows much more controlled layout of a page and its graphics and text than other formats. It requires a browser plug-in to see a web page in PDF format or files can be read with the Adobe Acrobat Reader software. Files will usually have a .pdf extension and are sometimes referred to as Acrobat files.
